Made to Shine: 8-Week Kids' Ministry Curriculum

Help kids discover that God made each of them to shine brightly for Him in a dark world!

Made to Shine is an eight-week kids’ ministry series built on Matthew 5:14 (NASB): “You are the light of the world.” God wants His kids to live boldly for Him and influence the world around them for good. We want our kids to be more than just people who go to church on Sundays because they have to. We want them to have their own relationship with the Holy Spirit and be genuine followers of Christ. In this series, they’ll learn who they are in Christ, that they were made on purpose for a purpose, and how God invites them to help change the world around them by being a light to everyone around them!

Now for ages 4–11! Along with the full elementary teachings, this series includes Little Ones lessons for ages 4–5 that teach the same big idea and a short part of the same memory verse each week, so your whole kids’ ministry learns the same truth at the same time.

The Lessons

• Week 1: Introduction (Matthew 5:14-15, NASB). This week’s lesson sets the stage for the rest of the series. God wants our kids not only to survive in this life but to thrive! He wants them to walk in all the good plans He has for them and to help others know Jesus through their actions. Kids will learn that God has called them to be lights in the darkness, influencing the world around them, and that with Him, they can live a life that shines the love of Jesus to everyone they meet.
• Week 2: What Kind of Light Are You? (Philippians 2:14-16, NIV). It’s easy to get excited about God at camp, feel inspired on a Sunday at church, or check off Bible reading like another item on a to-do list. It’s another thing to live out your faith every day of the week, diving into God’s Word not because you have to, but because you want to, and growing a real relationship with Him. In this lesson, kids will be challenged to look at their own hearts toward God and encouraged to step more fully into a vibrant, growing relationship with Christ, not just sometimes, but every day!
• Week 3: Made By Design (Psalm 139:13-14, NASB). When God made each of us, He was so intentional, from our height and hair color to the color of our skin, and He never makes mistakes! We want our kids to be confident in the way God created them and to see that traits like freckles, straight hair, or curls are all part of His wonderful master design!
• Week 4: Chosen (1 Peter 2:9, NASB). God chose us first, carefully and with great love, and appointed us to bear fruit that lasts.
• Week 5: Made with Purpose (Ephesians 2:10, NIV). Like everyday things made for a job, God made us with great purpose, and every part of the body of Christ matters.
• Week 6: Refined to Shine (2 Corinthians 3:18, NASB). Like a refiner of silver, God removes the dross from our hearts so His reflection is seen in us.
• Week 7: Made to Show People Jesus (Matthew 5:16, NIV). Kids ask, "When they see me, do they see Jesus?" and take home a Shine Challenge.
• Week 8: Gifts of the Spirit (1 Peter 4:10, NIV). Kids learn the difference between the fruit and the gifts of the Spirit and how God uses His gifts to build up His church.
